DEVYANI BHAVE, 2001 SCHOLAR
Devyani Bhave has completed her B. Sc. from Pune.
She will be going to King’s College London University to pursue a Master’s degree in Chemistry.
GAUTAM, 2001 SCHOLAR
Gautam graduated from St. Stephen’s College Delhi University in 2000
Gautam was Vice President Music Society St. Stephen’s College and has won several prestigious inter school and college music competitions. He has worked as a Music composer and programmer.
Gautam will be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the Berkeley College of Music USA.
MAUREEN NANDINI MITRA, 2001 SCHOLAR
Ms. Nandini Mitra graduated from Jadavpur University with English Honours in 1996. She went on to do a PG Diploma in Journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication in the year 1997. In 1998 she completed her MA in English from the Jadavpur University and worked as a journalist.
Nandini has won several prizes in school for debating, athletics and creative writing. She has also won a Gold medal at the All India Short Story Writing Contest in the year 1987.
Nandini will be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the Berkeley College of Music USA.
SREEKUMAR MENON, 2001 SCHOLAR
Mr. Sreekumar Menon completed his B.Sc. degree in Physics from the University of Calicut in 1995. He completed his MA in Conservation from the National Museum Institute.
Sreekumar is a sportsman and has been placed first in the Inter Collegiate Badminton Championships 1990-91. He was also placed first in State level Musk Competition in 1994.
Sreekumar presented a paper on caring for Manuscript collection, Vrindavan Research Institute in 2001. He has also worked as an Art Conservator. Sreekumar will pursue an Internship in the Conservation of Art from the Hamilton Kerr Institute, Cambridge University
SAHANA CHATTERJEE, 2001 SCHOLAR
Ms. Sahana Chatterjee has graduated in English from Jadavpur University in 2000. She was a member of the Dramatic Society of the University and has also been worked with a Theatre group for 3 years. She has been working as a Trainee for Darpana Academy of Performing Arts Ahmedabad.
Sahana will pursue a Master’s degree in Theatre and Development at the University of East Anglia.
SOUMITRA GHOSH, 2001 SCHOLAR
Soumitra Ghosh completed his Chemical Engineering from the IIT Kharagpur in 2001.
His extra curricular interests included Chess and he has participated in a number of Chess Tournaments.
Soumitra will pursue studies for a doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering from the Carnegie Melon University USA. He has received a full scholarship from the University.
ADIP DUTTA, 2002 SCHOLAR
Mr. Adip Dutta has completed his Master of Visual Art - Sculpture (SPZ) from Rabindra Bharati University. Interested in traditional image making and folk art since childhood, Adip ranked 1st both in his Bachelor & Master of Visual Art examinations. He also received the Rabindra Bharati Annual Exhibition Award for Sculpture (1998, 2000) and the Charles Wallace Scholarship (2002). Several of Adip's articles on art and traditional craft have been published in The Statesman, Kolkata. He participated in a one month long workshop in Edinburgh, and also conducted surveys and documented the sociological aspect of earthenware and terracotta votives in eastern India on behalf of the Craft Council of West Bengal. Besides, Adip has worked as designer in a workshop of traditional Dhokra casting organized by the Craft Council of W.B and was employed with St. Xavier's Collegiate School, Kolkata as a part-time teacher. Presently, he is working as a guest lecturer, Dept. of History of Art, Faculty of Visual Art, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. He plans to take up teaching as a career to build up cultural awareness in the simplest form.
Adip's admission as an Associate Research student has been confirmed in Goldsmith's College, London..
SWATI BHATTACHARJEE, 2002 SCHOLAR
Ms. Swati Bhattacharjee has completed her M.A (Philosophy) from Jadavpur University, Calcutta and has also pursued a Diploma Course (3 years) in Chinese Language from Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture. Swati received 2 Gold Medals for securing the first rank in her Graduation and Masters degree examinations. She bagged the 1st prize in an essay competition organized by Indian Council of Philosophical Research and also has the Panos Reproductive Health Media Fellowship up her sleeve. Her articles have appeared in the book 'No Paradise Yet' and she has written extensively for children. Among the publishers are National Book Trust and Vikas Publishing. An accomplished scholar, Swati has attended International Conferences in China, Malaysia, Australia and Nepal, compeered TV shows, worked with ABP Pvt. Ltd. as Principal Correspondent, participated in debates and also judged the debate in the Annual Festival at IIT, Kharagpur. Presently, she is working on a media project on neonatal mortality in West Bengal villages with a grant from Press Institute of India. She aims at contributing both to the quality of journalism and to social equality and justice
Swati will be pursuing MSc. in Media Studies from Stirling University, Scotland
GANESH C. T, 2002 SCHOLAR
Ganesh C.T has completed Ph.D. (Horticulture) from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. He qualified for ICAR's JRF and M.Sc exams. He also qualified in the NET Examination 2000 conducted by Agri Scientists Recruitment Board, ICAR, New Delhi. Ganesh loves sports and he represented the University Table Tennis team as Captain during 1998 (South Zone) held at Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu. Ganesh's community plan is to increase productivity of onion by way of controlling diseases as onion accounts for 90% of total vegetable export from our country.
Ganesh will be going to Wageningen University, The Netherlands for his Ph.D in Horticulture
OINDRILA MUKHERJEE, 2002 SCHOLAR
Oindrila Mukherjee graduated in English from Jadavpur University, Calcutta and Cambridge University. She has worked as a reporter with The Statesman. Her awards and medals include the Nehru Centenary Chevning Cambridge Scholarship (1997-99), the Charles Wallace Scholarship and Dharam Hinduja Bursary National Scholarship in 1996, the Prativamoyee Memorial Gold medal for best all round female student of Jadavpur University and the Prafulla Kanti Silver medal for best all round graduate of science & arts faculties of Jadavpur University, 1996.
Oindrila will be pursuing MFA (English) in Creative writing from the University of Florida.
GLORY ELIZABETH DHANARAJ, 2002 SCHOLAR
Glory Elizabeth Dhanraj completed her Bachelor of Speech and Hearing Sciences from Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research institute (Deemed University). She was awarded the Deveton Corrie prize for being the best outgoing student of the school, the Manohar Memorial young scientist award for Speech Pathology and the 1st prize for essay writing in the Leprosy Mission competition - Madras chapter. Besides, Glory was awarded the first prize in college for creative writing and extempore speech.
She has applied in City School, London for her M.Sc in Speech and Language Therapy.
JOYOBROTA SANYAL, 2002 SCHOLAR
Joyobrota Sanyal pursued his M.A (European Studies) from Katholieke Universiteit and M.Phil (International Relations) from Cambridge University. His portfolio of awards includes the British Chevening Scholarship (2000-2001), the Pembroke College Research Grant (2001), the Debesh-Kamal Scholarship awarded by Sri Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture (1998-1999) and the National/Graduate Scholarship (1997). Joyobrota also received the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Scholar (Honorary) and a fellowship from Cambridge Commonwealth Society. He has published a book, participated in debates organized by Rotary Club, workshops organized by the UN's subsidiary body- UNYO, and organised several academic conferences/seminars. He has also worked with the School of International Relations and Strategic Studies, Jadavpur University as a Research Assistant.
Joyobrota will be pursuing a Post Graduate Research (Ph.D.) in International Relations (European Studies) from Cambridge University.
NIKHIL ANAND, 2002 SCHOLAR
Nikhil Anand graduated in B.A. (Biology/Env. Studies) from Reed College, Portland, USA. He has been awarded with the John H. Hauberg Scholarship, the Arthur Vining Davis scholarship, the McGill Lawrence Scholarship and also the Presidents Commendation for Excellence in Scholarship. He has a SEEDS recognition for Community Service to his credit, has worked with Lokayan, Delhi as Project Coordinator and with India Centre for Human Rights & Law. He was Member- Reed Honor Council, Reed College Students Senate and Reed College Greenboard, Co-convenor-Network for Transportation Alternatives, Mumbai, Volunteer Coordinator- Greenpeace, Mumbai, Program Associate- Sustainable Alternatives to the Global Economy (SAGE), San Francisco, Independent Researcher- India's Forests and its People. He has published several articles and reports. He hopes to make a valuable contribution towards the globalisation of ecological sanity and human rights. He has also proved his mettle as far as leadership skills are concerned. Nikhil remained Associate- Partners for Urban Knowledge, Action and Research (2001) and initiated two electronic information listserver to inform communities and organizations about programs and initiatives taking place in Mumbai and rest of the country. Another milestone in Nikhil's career was co-initiating the first monthly bicycle ride for sustainable development and social justice in Mumbai. He was always an important representative of the student council in College. He also headed the South Asian Students Organisation on campus.
Nikhil will be pursuing his M.Phil (Environmental Studies) in Yale University.
ARINDAM K. BASU, 2002 SCHOLAR
Arindam K Basu completed his B.Arch-Hons (First Class) and ranked 1st in the University of Mumbai. He also has a diploma in Web design and programming and a Certificate on Passive Solar Architecture from IIT, Mumbai. The village environment, where he grew up watching people build homes from earth and dung, prompted him to opt for a career in Architecture & Environment. He received a Special prize for academic excellence from Pillai's College of Architecture, Mumbai, the Lotus Foundation Scholarship and the American Alumni travel grant. Besides, he has research experience with Pillai's College of Architecture, Mumbai, Construction Catalysers, Pune and Dr. Deepali Hadkar, Mumbai. He also has teaching experience with Pillai's College of Architecture, Mumbai, Allana C.OA, Pune and SNDT University. He has also worked with several reputed firms. Arindam is also a district level Badminton and Basketball player and has also represented Scouts at the State level. He remained the chief organizer of seminar on behalf of National Association of Teachers of Architecture by PICA at national level and other national level intercollegiate seminars. He wants to make proper use of technology, material and natural resources to create design/homes that will continue to improve living conditions especially in the Indian context.
Arindam will be pursuing his Masters and Ph.D./D.Arch from Penn State University.
SUDDHASEEL SEN, 2003 SCHOLAR
Susshaseel Sen is M.A.1st class in English from Jadavpur University and has certifications in French, Italian and Deutsch from Jadavpur University and Goeth-Institute respectively. He is already teaching at the South Calcutta Girls’ College, Kolkata.
Suddhaseel will pursue a Ph.D. in English in the University of Toronto with an objective to take up teaching and offer guidance to students of diverse interest not only in the field of English studies but also outside it, such as music, drama and criticism.
ZAITOON F. ISMAIL, 2003 SCHOLAR
Zaitoon F. Ismail is B.A.1st class in Economics from University of Mumbai and is currently in her Final year of M.A.from University of Mumbai. She is recipient of the Sir Dorabji A Merit Prize Scholarship awarded annually from June 1998 to June 2001 and has completed 21 credits (16 being the requirement) as part of the Honours programme in Economics and Sociology.
Zaitoon will pursue M.Sc. Development Finance. Applied to University of Reading, UK.
MEHTA BHAVESH SUNILKUMAR, 2003 SCHOLAR
Sunilkumar Bhavesh mehta is a B.E. - 1st class - in Computer Science from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani. He is ranked 1st among about 120 students of Computer Science & Information Systems Group and 2nd among about 850 students in the class of 2003, is reciepient of Merit Scholarship awarded by BITS at undergraduate level as well Merit Scholarship from The Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation Group.Sunil is Ranked among top 10% students by Indian Association of Physics Teachers’ National Standard Examination in Physics in 1999. has won several National Talent Search Examination prizes, has ranked 2nd in state level Mathematics Education Competition – Quiz in 1996, ranked 4th among about 50,000 Higher Secondary Certificate (10+2) in 1999, ranked 1st in the Ramanujan Mathematics Talent Search Scheme in 1997. He has been awarded the Shairuni Scholarship in 1997 and recieved Hashoo Shani Scholarship, The Intract Club Scholarship, Gujarat Secondary Board Merit Scholarship, Late Dhanraj J. Parmar & Babubhai Solanki Scholarship in 1999.
Sunil kumar will pursue M.S./Ph.D. in Computer Science. Admission to Carnegie Mellon University, with scholarship with an objective is to contribute more and more towards development of the country through with research.
DEVENDER KUMAR, 2003 SCHOLAR
Devendra Kumar is M.V.Sc. - 1st class - Veterinary Immunology from College of Veterinary Sciences, CCS HAU, Hissar, Haryana. He is ranked 3rd position in science exhibition held at Government Post Graduate College, been awarded CCS HAU merit scholarship during M.V.Sc. programme, has qualified for lectureship in Veterinary Microbiology in ICAR-NET in 2001, is credited with successful development of an indigenous vaccine technology for making inactivated bacterial vaccine, has attended Winter School in Immunology in February 2001 at Kovalam, Kerala , organized by Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. Cancer Research Institute and Ludwig Institute of Cancer Research, New York, USA and been invited to attend a symposium organized by Foundation Merieux, France at Les Pensieres conference center, France on 27-29 May 2002.
Devender will pursue Ph.D. in Immunology & Molecular Virology. Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research, Berlin, Germany with an objective to contribute towards the development of diagnostic tools and vaccine in the context of problems existing in India.
KABITA SANTRA, 2003 SCHOLAR
Kabitra Santra is B.Sc. - Mathematics - 1st class - from Burdwan University. She has self financed her studies through giving tuitions in Kolkata and in her village. The village has supported her efforts because of her outstanding determination to succeed.
Kabitra will pursue M.Sc. in Mathematics. Jadavpur University, Kolkata with an objecive to teach and would try to infuse her pupils a sense of responsibility, love for moral values and sympathetic heart towards the not so privileged
HARASANKAR ADHIKARI, 2003 SCHOLAR
Harasankar Adhikari is M.S.W. - 1st class - in Social Work Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan. He been awarded grant by Sunya Foundation, Ahmedabad to conduct a ‘Study on burdening of attitudinal changes of the children of sex workers for Promotion of their Psycho-social development’ and has Qualified for the Joint Entrance Examination and received admission to the MBBS course in 1992 which he was not able to take up for lack of funds (His father is a landless agricultural daily labour)
Harasankar will pursue Ph.D in Social Work. Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan confirmed registration with an objective to delineate the construction of ‘home’ and the practice of parenting and care among the prostitutes.
PRARTHANA PURKAYASTHA, 2003 SCHOLAR
Prarthana PurkayasthaM.A. - 1st class - in English Literature from Jadavpur University. She has Qualified the Seventh State Level Eligibility Test (SLET), 2002 for Lectureship at the college/university level, held by the West Bengal College Service Commission, been awarded the Sangeet Natak Academi grant for contemporary dance production for 2003.
Prarthana will pursue a Ph.D. in Dance Studies. University of Surrey, Roehampton, UK with an objective to devote her entire life to a scholarly and artistic pursuit of Indian dance forms and to document the unique performance history of our country.
SARAVANANE POOBALANE, 2003 SCHOLAR
Saravanane Poobalane is M.FSc, 1st class, Fisheries Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai. He has been awarded Junior Research Fellowship by Indian Council of Agricultural Research for master degree program, French Government fellowship for short time research program at IFREMER Lab, La Tremcade, France. His father is a fisherman.
Saravanane will pursue a Ph.D. in Aquatic Pathology. Institute of Aquaculture, Stirling University, Scotland with an objective to achieve the maximum success in the fresh water fish culture and thereby increase production to meet India’s demand.
SOUVIK DAS, 2003 SCHOLAR
Souvik Das is studying in Final year of B.Sc. - in Physics from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. He is recipient of Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana 2001-05 by the Indian Institute of Science & D.S.T. India (Fellowship) and Published paper and selected as 1 of 4 students to represent India at the London International Youth Science Forum 2002. He is among the National Top 1% - National Standard Examination in Physics, Indian Association of Physics Teachers, won the 2nd prize in Popil Memorial Physics Aptitude Test 2001, St. Stephen,s College, University of Delhi, won the 2nd prize – Quest 2001-2002, Centre for Science Education and Communication, University of Delhi. Souvik was ranked 33 all India in X National Level Science Talent Search Examination 1995, United Council for Educational Research and Scientific Advancement in Learning and won the 1st prize in Eastern India Science Fair, Government of India and Intel, 1998-99, 2nd prize in District Science Fair, Birla Industrial and Technological Museum and Government of West Bengal, 1998-99, 1st prize – West Bengal State Level Software Development Fair, 1995 and 2nd prize – Calcutta District Level Software Development Competition.

BOSANTA RANJANN BORUAH, 2004 SCHOLAR
Bosanta Rankann Boruah is M. Sc. in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai and M.Tech in Applied Optics form Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He has ranked 1st in B.Sc (Physics – Honours) exam from Guwahati University, cleared GATE (Physics), 1997 with 95.46 percentile, NET – JRF (CSIR) in 1999. He is a Lecturer, Department of Physics, Guwahati University and an ex Lecturer of Physics, FMIRO (college), New Delhi
Bosanta will pursue Ph.D. in Physics. Imperial College, London, UK with an objective to research infrastructure in the field of optics and spectroscopy, a research interest that developed while he was doing his M.Tech programme at IIT, Delhi. .
SHEBA RANI N D, 2004 SCHOLAR
Sheba Rani is a Bachelor of Pharmacy from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and a Master of Bio-Medical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. She is University Gold Medallist in M.E. (Bio-Medical Engineering), UGC Fellowship for merit holder in M.E. (Bio-Medical Engineering), has Qualified in GATE with 89.84 percentile, Secured 7th position in All India level in Software Engineering Principles Examination and has a Certificate of continuing education in Information System from Pace University, New York, USA. Her experience of being in touch with operation theaters patients and doctors with a wide variety of medical devices and equipments when she was working in M/s Johnson & Johnson as a Territory Manager, motivated her to leave the job and do research.
Sheba will pursue her Ph.D. in Bio-Medical Engineering. Jadavpur University, Kolkata with an objective to contribute more towards innovative development of Cell transplant therapy through Umbilical Cord Blood and Stem Cell research thereby development of Umbilical Cord Blood Bank.
ARPITA GHOSH, 2004 SCHOLAR
Arpita Ghosh is a M.Sc. in Statistics from University of Calcutta. She has secured 1st place in M.Sc. from University of Calcutta, is among top 20% awardees in Mathematical Sciences in NET and invited to take Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Fellowship Test, has been awarded R.C. Bose Memorial Book Prize. Her decision to pursue Biostatistics stems from her interest in Statistics and Genetics.
Arpita will pursue a Ph.D. in Biostatistics. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA with an objective to do research and teach.
YOGESH KUMAR RAMDAS, 2004 SCHOLAR
Yogesh Kumar Ramdas is B.Tech. in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He has ranked 1st in the institute right from the first semester, ranked 3rd in XII board exams conducted by the State Board of Tamil Nadu, ranked 4th rank in INPCEE, the college entrance examination in Tamil Nadu and is amongst the Top 0.1% of the country in X CBSE board exams. He is recipient of the B.P. Poddar Merit Scholarships and Technology Alumni Association (Kharagpur) Scholarships. He has won various Academic awards including J.C. Ghosh Memorial Prize, International Symposium 1981 Prize, John von Neuman award, Charubala Devi Memorial Prize, R.M. Lalwani Prize, Technology Alumni Association, Delhi Chapter and California Chapter.

Yogesh will pursue an M.S. & a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA with an objective to research on electronic circuits, communications and electromagnetic theory either in the industry or in the academia.
AJIT SINGH, 2004 SCHOLAR
Ajit Singh is B. Arch. from School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi. He is recipient of SPA Gold Medal for best student in Bachelor of Architecture, C.M. Master Memorial prize for performance in final B.Arch. Exams, Nomi Bose Memorial Gold Medal for standing 1st in Thesis at the final B.Arch. exams. He has been awarded scholarship for topping in Building Construction, bagged a General proficiency award for standing 1st at the finals of B.Arch. exams and awarded cash prize for scoring the highest marks in Architectural design in 1998 and 2002. Ajit was finalist urban design competition, for Guru Teg Bahadur, Indraprastha University 2000-2001 and Finalist – G Sen Trophy design competition organised by National Students Association 2000. He is working as Associated Architect with M/s Sanjay Prakash and Associates, New Delhi
Ajit will pursue Master of Urban Design. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA with an objective to be a part of the system that offers creative solution to various problems of city through designing. His long term goal is of pursuing a career of teaching and research.

He is a Gold Medalist in Architecture, 2005 and is recipient of Merit cum Means Scholarship, 1999-2004, DAAD Scholarship, Germany, 2006, IIT Bombay teaching assistantship, 2004-06, Red Dot Product Design finalist, 2006 and International Young Design Entrepreneur of the Year finalist in 2006.
He is a nomadic artistic researcher for FOAM and has worked for Widgery Works Inc. as an artist. He likes to base his designs on in-depth ethnographic study of the community for whom he is designing so that the design and architecture is embedded in an economic, social, and cultural reality. Sanjeev has worked with craftsmen of Nagaland and in the ‘Culture Specific Footwear' he has merged traditional crafts based knowledge with emerging technology.
Sanjeev will pursue Master of Arts in Advanced Architectural Design'' at Stadelschule in Frankfurt am Main with an objective to start a self sustaining grass root group in 5 years which looks at aspects of tradition and innovation; sustainability; public art and architecture and a more participative approach in the creative process in India.

Subhadeep Mukhopadhyay is a B. Sc in Statistics from St. Xavier's college, University of Calcutta and an M. Sc in Statistics from IIT Kanpur Personal/Social he stood 1st in IIT Kanpur Statistical Department. Scored 10/10 in all Semesters, is recipient of Sangita Pradhan Memorial Gold medal 2008, Director's Best student award 2008, MCM scholarship 2007, N. Balakrishnan award, 2007, JN kapur Award, 2007 and reciepient of National Scholarship from University of Calcutta for Ranking 9th in B.Sc.
Subhadeep will pursue Ph.D in Statistics: Applied Bayesian Statistics from University of Texas A& M, USA with an objective to be a researcher, whose work will be appreciated for its applicability & practical value.
