Farida Lambay
Founder and Trustee of Pratham

Founder and Trustee of Pratham, an NGO established in 1994 from the slums of Mumbai , Mrs Farida Lambay is a crusader for education and been instrumental in policy changes both in education and in relation to child labour.

She has initiated the projects like Prerana (working for the rights of Prostitutes in Kamatipura), YUVA (an organization working on various social issues taking strength from the youth) and others; has been a part of several State and National Committees including the SSA, Sachar Committee, the Maharashtra State Security Council, member of the Maharashtra State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights and others.

She is recipient of many awards including the Award presented by the Social Justice and Peace Committee, the Best Teacher Award presented by the Municipal Corporation and most recently the Ahilyabai Holkar Award presented by the Maharashtra Government. Born and brought up in Mumbai, Farida Lambay completed her graduation in Elphinston College followed by her Masters in Social Work from College of Social Work, Nirmala Niketan where she initiated the Municipal School Project for College of Social Work, Nirmala Niketan which led to social workers becoming a part of the Municipal Corporation structure, a change that then seemed to be impossible. This was the first glimpse of the ideology that she strongly propagates of converting best practices into policy and working in collaboration with the government.
